Do I need a Visa?
Indonesia has a free 30-Day tourist visa available for most countries, be sure to check yours. If you would like to stay more than 30 days, then you have the option to pay $35 for a visa-on-arrival (VOA) at the airport with the option to extend for another 30 days; so, up to 60 days in total. Please ask if you have more questions.
Passport?
If your passport is due to expire within 6 months, we advise you to renew. You should also be able to demonstrate an outbound flight from Indonesia and have at least two blank pages in your passport.
Which airport to fly into?
Airport : Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar – DPS).
When is the best time to visit Bali?
Bali has a tropical climate and is warm and humid throughout the year. Any time is good for a visit. In Jan and Feb it tends to rain more but if you are at a retreat at Solana, you would have a good time regardless 🙂
Currency?
What kind of money do they use in Bali and should I take cash or travelers checks? The Indonesian rupiah is the money for all of Indonesian and Bali. Most foreign ATMs and credit cards work here.
Are there ATM machines?
Yes, there are ATM machines all over Ubud and in most towns in Bali. Be aware of charges and contact your bank at home before you leave to tell them you will be in Bali. I would recommend using the ATM next to a bank for tighter security, and remember that the card comes out AFTER the money, and sometimes it can take quite the moment.
Is there internet access in Bali?
Yes, almost every hotel and restaurant in Bali has internet access. At Solana we would highly, highly recommend that you take this golden opportunity to unplug and unwind @oldschool and not forget paper books and your journal.
What language do they speak in Bali?
Bahasa Indonesia is generally spoken throughout Indonesia and the Balinese speak Balinese among themselves. However, English is widely spoken everywhere and you can easily get by.
How safe is it?
Ubud is a spiritual mecca, and generally very safe. Ask if you’re not sure, and trust your instincts. Care for yourself as you would anywhere else.
Temples & ceremonies
When entering temples you must be respectful and have your shoulders covered and wear a sarong (for men and women) – usually sarongs are provided for you when you visit a temple. The Balinese welcome you to their ceremonies, but you must dress appropriately.
Personal belongings:
We suggest you exercise the same caution you would anywhere. Please leave all your valuables, including your flight tickets, passport and travellers cheques, in your safety deposit box provided free of charge at Solana and in most hotels. Better safe than sorry!
Personal Health:
We suggest you wear a hat, ensure sun cream is used and topped up regularly, sunglasses of course, and please use natural insect repellents when necessary. We supply a chemical free version in our shop, advised mainly just at sunset; but more importantly we have liberally planted mosquito repelling plants to minimise this largely unavoidable aspect of life in the tropics.
Can I take medicine to Bali, and can I get medicine while there?
Yes, there are pharmacies in Bali that have most common drugs, such as antibiotics, anti diarrhea, cold and flu remedies. If you are bringing medicine to Bali make sure you have a prescription from your doctor on the label.
How about healthcare in Bali?
Almost every hotel in Bali has a doctor that will come to the hotel to see you. There are also clinics, hospitals and doctor’s offices around Bali. At Solana, we have our own naturopath as well as a doctor who can help. In case of an emergency, we can bring you to the right hospital.
Coronavirus
We’re presuming it will be done by 2022, but we’ll have all setups in place anyhows.
How safe is Bali?
Bali is generally very safe but like any other place we invite you to exercise caution and common sense.
Travel Insurance?
It is advisable to get travel insurance that includes health insurance with evacuation coverage.
What is the weather like in Bali?
Be prepared to be hot.
What should I pack?
Bali is hot so think light and layers. For your stay at Solana, all you really need is flip flops and shorts, yoga clothes, a sarong and bathing suits.
At Solana we are raving fans of barefoot living. We encourage you to let go, be yourself, to be comfortable and free for the duration of the retreat. Yoga clothes and a few light summer outfits will see you right, but what makes you feel fabulous???
Who will I share my room with?
All our rooms are twin share designed in a way that you still feel private. We will do our best to team you up with a great room mate. If you would like your own room, please ask us about rates.
Are the retreats for both men and women?
Yes indeedy, absolutely. At Solana, we foster an environment of respect, trust, truth, openness and inclusivity.
Checkin?
Opening ceremony starts at 5pm on Sunday evening (check-in from 2pm)
Checkout?
Checkout is midday on the last day of the retreat, so we suggest afternoon or evening flights for departure.
What if I have to cancel?
Of course we hope that you won’t need to, but all the details of our transfer policy can be found here.
Excursions?
If you’re in Bali for a really limited time frame and there’s something you absolutely MUST see / do / experience before you go home; talk to us and we’ll try to accomodate you and to minimise disruption to the overall experience of your immersion. Most activities can be booked in advance to be sure, to be sure.
Will I be able to charge my cell phone , camera, and laptop?
Yes
We reserve our rights.
Offensive communication and discrimination is simply not allowed, period. This may seem obvious; but to be sure, to be sure, any intolerant behavior based on gender, nationality, social belonging, physical features, anything deemed inappropriate really, is NOT accepted. We reserve the right to ask any guest showing such behavior to leave the retreat, without a refund.
Fully Transferable Policy
In these uncertain times, we want you to know that we care. In case you are not able to join a program, please let us know 2 weeks before the start date and we will transfer it to another program no questions asked.
In case your plans change within 2 weeks of the retreat, we will charge 20% to move your spot to another retreat.
Please know that a lot of preparations are needed for a retreat. If you change within 2 days of arriving, we will be charging 50% to move your spot to another retreat.
But if the situation is outside your control like a flight being cancelled or a health issue, talk to us and we will try our best to make it work for you.
You can transfer your spot to another person at any time.
I’m a novice?
Yoga is a practice, and even the most experienced yogis feel like a beginner some days. It’s about evolving day by day. You’ll be given the opportunity to share about your practice when you register, so that our adaptable guides will know exactly how to craft each class for the needs and energy levels of all the guests.
I’m an aficionado (experienced)?
Incredible, welcome; whatever your level, our expert team will ensure you are expanding at a level that’s comfortable for you, or maybe at times just beyond your comfort zone 😉 We inclusively and intuitively facilitate all levels at our gatherings which our guests have found to be massively beneficial for all concerned.
Will I need my Yoga mat?
At Solana we supply top grade mats, but you might want to bring your own, especially if you anticipate staying longer in Bali for your own practice.
How often do we practice yoga?
The immersions feature 1 to 2 classes, depending on what other activities are included that day; Generally the evening class will be Yin yoga or yoga nidra, gentle stretches that will help integrate all that you have learnt in the day. We encourage everyone to be fully engaged and participate in all the classes, but we also honour people honouring themselves with self care. We understand.
We are here to help you 7 days a week and respond within 24 hours. Plus, you can find most answers to your questions right on FAQ page.
